Homer Louis "Boots" Randolph Dedication
Approximately thirty people were in attendance Tuesday afternoon for
the dedication of a historic marker celebrating the life of Homer
Louis "Boots" Randolph and his time in Munfordville. Several
Munfordville high school classmates of Boots Randolph were in
attendance. The ceremony opened with a greeting by Melody Chaney,
introduction of Dr. Kennady with Charles D. Williams. Dr. Hite Q.
Kennady, who was a classmate and close friend, told the crowd that
Boots would come to his house and play the saxophone and other
instruments the family had. During his lifetime, Boots played in
Carnegie Hall and all over the world and became a household name in
the music industry.

Winds of 100 miles per hour and a path of 350
yards wide... The dimensions of a EF-1 Tornado that the National Weather Service
says formed just outside of Park City on Thursday afternoon. The vortex
intermittently touched the ground along a three mile stretch in North-West
Barren County. No one was injured in the storms path, which also completely
destroyed a mobile home where residents were taking shelter inside. After seeing
the devastation, one family member said it was a miracle that no one was
harmed. It also serves as a lesson learned from experience not to stay in a
mobile home during a tornado warning. Both of our affiliated stations, WLOC and
WHSX were simulcasting at the time of the storm and warned residents in the
corners of Edmonson, Hart and Barren counties to prepare for severe weather
approximately 5 minutes before the tornado first touched down at 2:02 central
time.

I will always honor the values and
humor of The Andy Griffith Show. The show is a major influence in
my life and career in the broadcast industry. Andy, Barney, Opie,
Aunt B, Thelma Lou, Helen, Otis, Floyd and the residents of Mayberry
will live in our hearts and lives for as long as we will allow them
to. I treasure the show and what it stands for. Though some may
argue back and forth about whether or not TV shows are as good today
as they were back then, The Andy Griffith Show possesses a certain
quality that endures through time. Seinfield, Friends, CSI and
other great shows of modern times are, indeed, great. But I don't
believe that these shows will ever stand the test of time as The
Andy Griffith Show.
